Enjoy finding your voice in a 3-D language with instructor James Florschutz using found materials from The ADX scrap bin or your own re-purposed materials.

This wood sculpture class focuses on fastening techniques and the safe use of hand power tools and hand tools. Emphasis will be the individual’s use of materials to express ideas and evoke emotions. Over the two 3-hour class sessions, participants will create a one-of-a-kind sculpture to take home and are encouraged to think outside the box. Participants will be invited to show their finished work in a future exhibit in the Bay Area Gallery space.

Instruction and construction will take place on two Wednesday sessions from 6-9pm. Participants are welcome to continue work at any time during ADX operating hours if they'd like more time to perfect their pieces.

Session 1: October 26

Session 2: November 2

The class is $300 for the series +$12 material fee for members. Nonmembers are offered the class at $340 + $12/materials, which includes a one-month Basic Membership so you can become a part of the our creative community! Have questions? EMAIL US or call 503.915.4342!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

James Florschutz Sedimental ADX

James Florschutz, sculptor and fine artist, is a recent transplant from Vermont who crafts awe-inducing pieces from scrap materials and found objects: “In using discarded materials (by-products) of our society and culture I investigate the ubiquity of sites, excavations and mapping. These discarded materials have their own language and tell their own stories. I attempt to unite these diverse materials to reveal insight into our culture’s sense of the environment,” Florschutz explains. "Sedimental" (seen above) is currently on display in the ADX lobby.
